Since its establishment in 2010, the theatre has firmly established itself as Ireland’s best loved venues, showcasing Irish and West-End and Broadway shows -many of which would not have been possible to stage in Ireland before. The UNWRAP 2017 schedule will continue to transform theatre goers experience with an impressive and thoroughly entertaining line up for the New Year.
Bord Gáis Energy Theatre unveiled its most spectacular season line-up in the theatre’s history, announcing 13 brand new productions to be added to an already sensational 2017 season. Next year will see the theatre unwrap an incredible line up of drama, comedy and magic, blockbuster West End Broadway Musicals, unique special events, musical high notes, dance and opera as well as some welcome favourites which return return by popular demand.
The 13 productions announced today include: Moscow City Ballet with two of Tchaikovsky’s best-loved ballets SWAN LAKE and SLEEPING BEAUTY, followed by a MOSCOW STATE OPERA production of CARMEN starring Ireland’s own Celine Byrne.
Drama announced today included THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG which joins the previously announced HAMLET, Peter James’s NOT DEAD ENOUGH starring Laura Whitmore and the return of the senstational National Theatre production of THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME.
Comedy and Magic comes courtesy of THE WEDDING SINGER – don’t miss your chance to join the party of the year! Packed with songs to capture the fun of the Adam Sandler smash hit film, starring Nadia Forde. Prepare to be amazed by the international Broadway Phenomenon THE ILLUSIONISTS, a spell binding spectacular of illusion and magic coming to Ireland for the first time, both of which sit alongside LA CAGE AUX FOLLES which will open in January.
Special events include UNIQUE LIVES, a series of in depth interviews with four iconic speakers designed to motivate, challenge and inspire, featuring COLONEL CHRIS HADFIELD, MIA FARROW, ALEXANDRA COUSTEAU, and JOHN CLEESE. Creative conference OFF-SET returns for what promises to be another sell out event.
Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schőnberg’s legendary musical MISS SAIGON leads an all star line-up of knockout productions set to delight in 2017. A recent smash in the West End and winner of a record-breaking nine Whatsonstage Awards including Best Show, this epic love story will play for seven weeks across October and November.
Also announced today a rapturous round of sensational West End and Broadway musicals including EVITA, CRAZY FOR YOU starring Tom Chambers, and the magical new musical extravaganza WONDERLAND. Dust off your leather jackets and pull up your bobby-socks and rock along to GREASE starring The Wanted’s Tom Parker. Everyone’s favourite kooky family will grace the stage in THE ADDAMS FAMILY featuring a live orchestra and original score sure to entertain you whether you’re 12 or 312!
Back by popular demand and added to today’s announcement are SISTER ACT and HAIRSPRAY, which join the previusly announced and also returning BLOOD BROTHERS, WEST SIDE STORY, and DIRTY DANCING all guaranteed to have you dancing in the aisles time after time.
We are also delighted to welcome the world premiere of SLEEPLESS, the enchanting new romantic musical comedy based on the original story and screenplay of the movie classic Sleepless In Seattle. Bursting with heart and humour, SLEEPLESS adds a fresh and lively look alongside a brand new musical score to bring this most timeless of romantic comedies to life on stage. Don’t miss out!
