The crème de la crème of Irish business was out in force on Thursday evening at the second annual Pakman Awards, a black-tie ceremony at the Intercontinental Hotel in Ballsbridge. The Pakman Awards recognise outstanding work in recycling, energy and waste management by any business, organisation or community group.
The awards ceremony saw 400 representatives come together to reward excellence in recycling, energy and waste management. Attendees included the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Mr. Denis Naughten, CEO of Repak, Seamus Clancy and RTE presenter Claire Byrne who acted as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Guests enjoyed a champagne reception followed by a delicious four course meal.
Meade Potato was awarded the 2016 Pakman Award for its proactive sustainability efforts and efficient channeling of food streams to the appropriate market while other winners included Allied Irish Bank, Aldi, Rehab Glassco, Dun Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council, Panda, SMILE Resource Exchange, University College Cork and Recreate Ireland.
The Pakman Awards raised €4,000 for Focus Ireland by donating €10 from each ticket sold to the worthy cause. Minister Denis Naughten and Chairman of Repak, Tony Keohane, presented the cheque to Eimear Kellett, Corporate Fundraising Manager for Focus Ireland on the night.
